I'm in Florida!

It is glorious and beyond wonderful to be home. We're staying in Miami and I just co-hosted the Miami Morning Show. The women were darling! - I will ask Lisa to link to it. We've been invited back and will try for January. Off now to lunch at the famous Joe's in South Beach. Don't you wish you were me?!!

I had time to meet my sister in law Maria Hall for lunch at the famous Joe's Stone Crab in South Beach.

Lunch was Joe's delicious lobster mac & cheese!

Preparing For Cold & Flu Season

IT'S COLD AND FLU SEASON. More than 300 different viruses can cause colds, so each time you have a cold it is caused by a distinct virus. It's important to realize that there are currently NO drugs available that can kill these cold-producing viruses.

There are, however, a number of ways to ensure you won't end up with a cold. One of the most important is to make sure you optimize your vitamin D levels year-round.

(In addition, there's compelling evidence that seasonal influenza is little more than a symptom of vitamin D deficiency!)

Celebrity Poker Benefit

I attended the celebrity poker game to benefit the Children's Institute. The fundraiser is organized by Camryn Manheim. It was a terrific afternoon, everyone had a howling good time, and raised lots of money for at risk kids.

Genius Soup!

I had 8 women over for "Beauty Parlor Day". Cool here so I served the Genius Vegetable Soup. David walked in near the end, stopped dead in his tracks and said, "The soup's not gone, is it?!!" It is now!!

Want to try the recipe? You can find it in my new book, available for purchase here at amazon.com. Deidre Hall's Kitchen Closeup

Thoughts About Omegas...

One of my favorite health sites is Mercola.com. I encourage you to check it out if you are so inclined. There was a lot of information about omegas that I want to share. If you take any source of omega 3-6-9, and I hope you do, follow these guidelines:

A. Buy in a glass bottle, not clear or plastic. The florescent and UVB ray will turn the oil rancid.
B. Buy in small amounts, not large containers. You have a better chance of freshness.
C. When possible, buy direct ship from a distributor. Who know how long that bottle has been sitting on the shelf.

Consider buying krill oil. It contains lower metals and is far more effective in lowering cholesterol and triglycerides.

Operation Smile Gala

The OPSmile Gala was as elegant and fun as always. Actors from Glee performed and were magnificent. There were huge donations and touching talks. Calista, accepting for Harrison who was stuck on location, owned the stage and spoke beautifully.

Kitchen Beautician

As most of you know by now, I am a Kitchen Beautician. It's something I have loved since I was in grade school. I cut my children's hair since they were toddlers, trim and color my own, and have a ransom of women who come by regularly for touch ups! You may have seen the interview Jane Elliot did about her 'hair care professional ". It is therapeutic and makes for great girl time as well as saving quite a bit on Beverly Hill's salon prices!

Everyone laughed when I picked up the hair color brush...

Sorry, I'm not taking on any extra clients.

In the Garden

Here it is. A shameful brag on my garden. When I talk about going out to pick tomatoes, this is how it looks!

If you forget to look under the leaves for a while, this is what an ignored zucchini looks like.

Don't know if it's going to be Choc Zucchini cake, soup, or bread.

These amaze me. they ripen even while buried inside the plant.

Happy Birthday, David!

For many of us it's the last hours of Summer Break. What a flood of mixed feelings. It's David's senior year so everything seems like 'the last time he'll fill in the blank.' David's 18th was wonderful. Enjoy some photos. All my cakes have flowers...it's the only decoration I can do.

Days of Summer...

Well, my baby boy turned 18 yesterday. We celebrated in our traditional way. A small family party on the back porch. David had two friends there ... his cousin, Ariana, stopped by as did Robin, the boy's surrogate mom. Tully and I grilled burgers and salmon and made David's favorite cake. It was a sweet night filled with great fun and dear memories. We measured David's height on the permanent measuring wall in the kitchen...another fun tradition.

David is playing football this year and has been practicing in the brutal heat of the valley. Yipes! Tully and I attended the Open House of his school's new location. It was lovely and good to see familiar faces. Seems summer is trying to wrap itself up. I will begin press on the book in September. I'll let you know when to watch or show up. 18. Hmmm...

One of the gentler moments of the evening when the boys and I sat together to send Rob a video birthday greeting. Rob is Robin's eldest son. His truck hit an IED in Afghanistan last week. He's been hospitalized with a badly broken foot and a concussion. We've been very concerned about him. It was a very moving moment.

Premiere

Fun night. The movie is as advertised. It was a fun, casual red carpet with close access to the fans. They served Aussie popcorn.. VERY salty!! Also served beetroot chips. Very tasty!

Killer Snakes!

Well, no... not really.... but here's a little of both!

At the Aussie premiere of "The Killers." The movie is exactly what it seems. The director is from Oz. He and Ashton have a nice relationship.

Out & About

A few more fun shots from Melbourne...

Trolley to get easily and cutely across town.

A shot from the ferry.

The Fully Sick Rapper - the guy who You Tubed his way to fame while recovering from TB.

Beautiful Melbourne...

Walked around Melbourne yesterday. The trolley runs right through the center of all the streets, horse drawn carriages right along side the cars. They all coexist beautifully. There are wondrous historical buildings steps away from very high modern architecture. The new stadium looks like its made of huge silver balls.

Big night in Melbourne. I've been invited to the premiere of Ashton Kutcher's new movie, "Killers." Speaking of entertainment, I really loved watching "Lost in Space" on TV last night. Stay close Will Robinson!

Email and Twitter all your people to order the book! Still hoping for a best seller!!

Photos!

You've all been waiting patiently for photos, so here are some from the trip so far:

This is Daniela and the Kerri-Anne producer holding the BOOK!

Taken in Hyde Park, Sydney. They have spectacular churches and buildings.

Hyde Park again. Glorious light, eh?

This was taken at a wharf side bistro in Sydney.
The light here is breathtaking. Reminds me of the light in Monaco.
For those who don't recognize Lynne Bowman, she is my pal and
co-author.

Loving Sydney...

Loving Sydney as much as always. My visit to the wildlife was delicious! The staff was very welcoming and helpful. It was my first time petting a kangaroo, who was far more interested in his carrots! The city of Sydney is glorious with light at night and the streets are bustling with people. I'm spending the day sightseeing with the girls. Taking photos and will share them as I'm able.

For fans down under, tune in to catch me on "The Circle" Monday, July 19th at 10am on channel 10.

The Beauty Down Under...

I welcomed the Sydney dawn again. In fact, I was up waiting for it at 4 AM.... again! Hit Hyde Park for a glorious jog at 7 and wrapped up the early hours at a darling breakfast bistro by the park.

Still looking forward to the koalas and kangaroos. Perhaps today. I fall more in love with the city by the day. The air is cool with a perfect breeze. The city streets are bustling. The Aussies dress beautifully. A visual pleasure. D

Qantas: good food, great service, every movie I've missed this year and time to watch them. Flying to Oz: priceless! Saw Valentines Day, Leap Year, and Ghost Writer. Coming back I plan to watch I Love You Too, and Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, even though I can't get through the book.

Early press tomorrow including Kerri Anne and radio. Then perhaps high tea somewhere.

Grownups

If you are looking for a light-hearted, laugh-out-loud Summer movie, take yourself to see Grownups. Tully and I made a last minute decision to go and had a delicious time. We both laughed out loud at the hilarious relationship driven banter. Then we strolled down to Steve Madden and wound up at Johnny Rockets reviewing our favorite moments. Life is good!
